CalMet Services, Inc. (CalMet) provides the trash Pick-Up service for several local communities. CalMet provides separate Trash Barrels (Black), Recycle Barrels (Blue), and Green-Waste Barrels (Green). Please place your materials in the appropriate barrel. See the CalMet Website for instructions.

CalMet Weekly Pick-Up occurs on Tuesdays, except when the trash collection day (Tuesday) falls on or after one of the following observed holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day (i.e.; if the Holiday is on a Monday or Tuesday, Pick-Up will occur on Wednesday). Curbside Holiday Tree disposal and recycling occurs on normal Pick-Up days (Tuesdays) for approximately two weeks following Christmas.

Bulky Item Pick-Up must be scheduled and will occur on normal Pick-Up days (limited to 2 Bulky Item Pick-Ups per year).

Street sweeping occurs every Friday morning. Some streets have parking restrictions on street sweeping days. However, to ensure that all streets within our community are kept clean, please ensure that your vehicle is moved off the street when street sweeping equipment is present.

The speed limit within most residential areas is 25 mph unless otherwise posted. This is a California state law for all residential areas. The Sheriff will often issue warnings or tickets to drivers exceeding the 25 mph speed limit.

However, residential areas are filled with children of all ages and levels of awareness. Use caution and keep alert when driving on our streets. And please don't text while driving.

We also have dozens of uncontrolled intersections. Please use caution and reduce your speed to 15 mph as recommended by the California Highway Patrol when approaching these intersections.

California state law prohibits parking a vehicle in the same spot for more than 72-hours (the 72-hour maximum street parking law).

It is illegal to park on a marked or unmarked crosswalk or sidewalk, or partially block a sidewalk. Also, it is illegal to park in front of a driveway, within 3 feet of a sidewalk ramp for disabled persons, or in front of or on a curb that provides wheelchair access to a sidewalk. There is also no parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant (whether or not the the curb is painted red), between a safety zone and the curb, or at a red curb.

There are numerous other California parking restrictions as delineated in the California Driver Handbook.

Parkway trees are generally trimmed by L.A. County Public Works on three year (fast growth) or six year (slow growth) cycles depending on the growth rate of the tree species. Palm trees are trimmed every two years. The tree trimming is done per arboricultural standards for the health and safety of the trees and to provide vertical clearance over the sidewalk and roadway for pedestrians and motorists.

All Fireworks are Prohibited in Unincorporated Los Angeles County

The County of Los Angeles Fire Code, Title 32, Section 5601.3 states that it is illegal to store, manufacture, sell, use, or handle ALL FORMS of fireworks without a valid permit in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.

The illegal use, storage, or handling of fireworks in unincorporated Los Angeles County is a violation of local and state laws and carries the following penalties:

• FIREWORKS: Under California Health and Safety Code Fireworks Penalties, Section 12700 states, “any person who violates any provision of the State Fireworks laws or Regulations is guilty of a misdemeanor. A misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of not less than $500, but not to exceed $1,000, by imprisonment in the county jail for up to one year, or both.”

• DANGEROUS FIREWORKS: Under California Health and Safety Code Fireworks Penalties, Section 12700(B) states, “a person in possession of unaltered dangerous fireworks in violation of the State Fireworks Law is punishable as a misdemeanor or a public offense with fines ranging from $500 to more than $50,000, depending on the gross weight of unaltered dangerous fireworks in possession.”

Each year thousands of people, many of them children, are burned, blinded, and even disfigured by fireworks. In addition, fireworks cause fires that cost us millions of dollars in property loss

Los Angeles County issues all building permits and conducts all building/ permit inspections for homes and businesses located in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County.

The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning, Zoning Enforcement Section, is responsible for enforcing the planning and zoning code throughout the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County.

A few of the more common zoning violations include:

Garage Conversions

Single family residences located on a lot of less than one acre are required to maintain a garage or carport. It is a violation, as well as dangerous, to convert either your garage or carport into living space without approval from the Department of Regional Planning.

Home Based Businesses

Home based businesses are permitted when they are subordinate and secondary to the home as an accessory use in a residential neighborhood. The following are not permitted:
- Operating any part of a home occupation in an accessory structure intended for parking
- Displaying business signs
- Having more than one non-resident employee.

Junk and Salvage

Storing old and secondhand materials irrelevant to the land use is not permitted. This includes junk, trash, auto parts, appliances, furniture, building materials, landscaping material, used tires, etc.

Yard Sales and Garage Sales

Only two personal property sales, each lasting up to 3 consecutive days, are allowed in any 12-month period. The following are not permitted:
- Selling new items or items bought for resale
- Conducting sale between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Inoperable Vehicle Storage

Inoperable vehicles are prohibited on private properties of residential uses. Signs of violations include flat tires, debris accumulation around vehicle, expired tags, or if the vehicle is partially dismantled.

Parking of Vehicles in Yards

Vehicles cannot be parked in the required front yard and portions of the side yard setback areas. Commercial vehicles cannot be parked or stored anywhere on residential or agricultural properties. Only passenger vehicles and pickup trucks can be parked and stored on driveways. The following are not permitted to be parked on driveways:
- Boats, commercial vehicles, motor homes, recreational vehicles, travel trailers, and utility trailers.
